If you want to stay healthy and need some advice on how to boost your immune system while you’re at work, we’ve prepared a health guide at work that you’ll certainly find helpful.

Diet

The best way to boost your immune system is with your diet. We recommend eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables every day. It’s smart to plan your meal for work the previous day, so you can prepare it at home or order it once you get there. It’s a myth that healthy food is not as easy to make as “fast food“, and there are so many diverse healthy recipes out there, that you can have a different delicious meal from Monday to Friday.

Exercise

We need to discuss your sitting position at work later on, but we just want to help you realize why exercising at work is such a big deal. Not only do you help your body stay in shape and prevent back and neck pain, but it also affects your mental health in a positive way. Small workouts at work, after you do your share of sitting can be crucial to prevent spine problems, plus you’ll feel much more energized.

Drinking

It’s very important to be aware of what you drink during the day and what you drank the night before. If you drink alcohol the night before you have to go to work, make sure you drink only in moderation. Make sure you drink the optimal amount of water and boost your immune system with refreshing beverages such as Immune System Booster from Vit2Go!, which is rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other good nutrients.

Smoking

Many people use their break to light up a cigarette and whether you’re a smoker or not, you inhale nasty smoke every day. If you want to avoid being a passive smoker at work, find a coffee shop that doesn’t allow smoking and hang out with non-smokers. Even though your closest colleague may be a smoker, you should explain that smoking is bad for your immune system and that you want to treat your body the way it deserves. You only live once and ruining your health over this nasty habit is unnecessary.

Sleeping

Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. Even though you may think sleeping is a waste of time, your immune system definitely thinks differently. You need to get enough sleep so you can be productive at work and feel good. If you miss out on your sleep you risk feeling tired all day long and even falling asleep at your work desk. Exhaustion and productivity are huge enemies!

Stress

Your immune system is highly threatened when you’re under stress. Each job comes with difficult and unpredictable situations that cause a huge amount of stress and you need to learn how to deal with it. Each person has his or her own mechanism for coping with stress and you need to discover what yours is, so you can preserve your mental health at work. Surround yourself with positive thoughts every morning, breath properly and practice assertive communication.

Cleanliness

Make sure you always wash your hands thoroughly and keep your work environment clean. This way you can prevent all kinds of infections and improve your health at work.

Best sitting position

There is no optimal sitting position at work but we gathered some tips on how to position your body in order to feel comfortable while working. Avoid closing your hips, knees, and ankles completely and keep them slightly open so you can feel more relaxed. Your knee joints should be at the same level or below your hip joints. We also recommend keeping your ankle joints in front of your knees. Another smart tip is to create a gap the width of three fingers between the back of the knee joint and the front edge of your chair. Your feet should be flat on the floor and your upper body within a 30° angle from an upright position. Another tip for healthy sitting is to keep the lumbar support of the chair’s backrest on your lumbar region. The position of your head is also very important and you should keep it aligned with your spine. Don’t forget to support your forearms, tuck in your elbows and keep your shoulders low and relaxed. This position is crucial to prevent back tension. Avoid bending to the sides or slouching. Whatever you do, don’t sit for more than 50 minutes at a time without standing up and taking a walk. Moving around the office and stretching exercises are something you can incorporate into your work routine.
